Cedrela Odorata Linnaeus Fm. Meliaceae

Soft Wood, light, durable, easy to work.
Pink color to reddish brown. Fast drying rate. Requires moderate treatment when stacking or on a deposit condition.

Brushed and molded without difficulty. Due to its softeness, it is very good for  carving and also offers no difficulty to turning. It has a characteristic smell (odor). Occasional spots due to resin. It sticks (nails) and screws very well; It needs pre-drilling if the nails and/or  screws are very thick. Good grip.

Easy gluing, despite the resin and is compatible with any glue or adhesives in the market. Moderate durability for its resistance to termites.

Cedar Uses

Manufacture of  médium quality furniture, doors, windows, cabinets, interior decoration, tobacco boxes, toothpicks, match boxes, boat covers and linings, parquet, plywood, poles,  packages, precision devices. Consider regular for pulp production for paper and carpentry.

Very good quality resin, was used to prepare laboratory samples. The bark can serve as a fever reducer; cooked leaves and bark can be used for pain and against malaria. It is also used a an urban ornament;shade for  coffee plantations and parks.  A néctar producing plant.
